Over one week, we were to photograph, collect and categorize 100 photographs into
- textures
- people
- places
- typography
- objects
Everyone came in and had their 100 photos, which we displayed on tables. It was interesting to see the diverse range of images that people came back with.
Some of my images...
We were then paired up and given a period to categorize, order and display someone else's lot of 100 photos. What seemed like such a dull and painstaking process actually turned out to be quite enjoyable.
An example of other people's categorized and ordered set of photos...
Me and Adam were to sort out Martin and Craig Laing's set of photos. For Craig's had initially problems identifying a common feature/theme within his photos, but finally decided to sort them out by location. A lot of the photos seemed to have been shot on the same day and there wasn't any photos of people or typography - making it quite restricted. His collection gave us a documented journey-like impression, therefore we categorized the photos in order of interior and exterior.
For Martin's, it was slightly easier as there was a bit of variation to his 100 photos. There were a few different ideas as to what kind of categories we could play around with but majority of them were quite limiting. For example, we wanted to look into categorizing in geographic location, but couldn't do that as there was no definite location for the majority of the images. After some discussion, we decided to organise the photos in alphabetical order, we would identify the first word that comes to mind when we look at each photo and organize the photos from there.
